Hair Fair 2013 – First Impression and a lot of awesome hairs. :) And releases from Truth! :P

Hello peeps! πŸ™‚

Hair Fairt 2013 started this night and the gods were kind with me and sent an angel impersonated by Voshie Paine, who told me at 3 am (or so) my time that I now had pre-access to the Hair Fair as a blogger despite having forgotten (omg!) to apply as one. Well you can guess what happened. ;D I rushed over and inspected the four sims, enjoying my lag-free journey. Here is your TAXI! πŸ™‚

My first impression

My eyes were bleeding just a litte, because the whole fair is a giant Legoland. πŸ˜€ Honestly, at first I thought ‘WTF’, but while flying around, I started to like it. It is actually quite adorable, since each vendor is located in one giant legopiece. Kind of a cute idea. πŸ™‚

My overall impression with the Hair Fair 2013 is pretty good, even though I wish a FEW relatively crappy (sorry) vendors were instead replaced with quality ones. I am not sure how the Hair Fair handles their vendors, is it first come first serve? Or do they actually choose them? I sort of missed Truth, Magika, DeLa and one or two other stores, but I was told by Gogo and others that some have their own, personal reasons for not participating, thus I suppose I cannot blame the eventmanagers. πŸ™‚

This round, I made it a point to have peek at stores I never paid much attention before. I was still sort of startled to see textures that remind me of 2009 at best at times, though overall, I think the quality provided was neat. A lot of new faces around, too, which made me happy and forced me to stay up until 5.30 am. ;DAlso, GUYS! Lots of hair for you there, too! πŸ™‚

What irked me…

What irked me a little is the amount of stores participating in the event who usually have nothing to do with hair at all, or haven’t released anything in aaaaaages. There are quite a few notably ones. It does seem a little forced and a bit like a quick money grab to me when a store who doesn’t really even offer hair at their mainstore (unless they launched their hairline at the Fair!) suddenly (and sometimes every year!) comes up with hair. Imho, often (not always) it cannot quite compete with the quality of established designers anyway and I find it odd that they price their items at the same price or even demand more than established designers such as Exile (random example!). ISON made a notable difference there with their hair being only 99 Lindens from what I saw. No matter the praise a lot of them get from their fancrowd, I was often not exactly convinced. A few though offered some nice stuff. πŸ™‚

I really don’t think creators should feel compelled to participate in every fair out there, wether or not it really fits their store. Dishing out a quick round of hair just to be in seems strange and very forced to me and that often reflects in their work, too.

There were a lot of stores that had some really neat stuff, however, and I won’t call names here, a few stores that were praised to the heavens by their followers, didn’t impress me at all. Odd headshapes, chunky strands and very stiff seeming styles were not to my taste. I suppose not blindly following the crowd something is a wise thing to do.

I really wish both LaViere and Clawtooth would offer actual red tones, and less carrot-like ones. I wanted hair from those stores badly, but….but…..me no orange! 😦 Pleaaaase Azure and Bubbles, make some real reds, too? πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Overall, it is a LOT more complicated to find nice red (not ginger!) shades than black. Old days were easier!

Random question:

Do you also sometimes have the problem that certain designers’ hair just never fits your head?? I am not sure if MY headshape is odd or theirs. Exile sometimes looks odd on me for example, but usually it fits. Truth always fits, so do Magika, D!va, Wasabi Pills, LeLutka and many more. But many hairs just seem waaaay to square for my head. 😦

And a suggestion for all hair designers:PLEASE make your hair modifyable. I really wish to be able to tint my hair. That is how I usually deal with Clawtooth (their blacks are no actual black either and I wore them a lot, simply adding a bit of a blue/grey undertone). I am aware that too much tinting takes away from the texture, but: I would appreciate it anyways if it was left up to me if I want to run around with muted textures or not. I think I am subtle enough with it and I am sad to miss out on many hairstyles that I like, just because their colours are far away from actual red.Β  PLEAAAASE?

So, here are, in alphabetical order, the hairs I got so far:
Hairfair 2013 1

I think I must have accidentally bought the wrong shades of the Auxiliary hair, haha. Damnit? I found no actual red color in there.Β  I think the textures are smooth and the hair is very cute. Imho, this is very smooth meshwork, too, so I quickly grabbed it, even though it was 300L, which is more than average. However, you get more than average colors as well! πŸ™‚

Baiastice is one of those random stores that I personally know for clothing (Do they have hair usually?? I haven’t checked yet!) that came up with hair. And I like it! Smooth, natural seeming textures, nice colours and no chunky, odd strands. πŸ™‚ It fits my head perfectly.Β  I like it!

Exxess surprised me. Usually I was never much impressed with their hairs, they seem too unnatural (not that this isn’t a bit toopoofy either :P) and the textures a tad too glossy. However, this style convinced me at first sight. They have neat reds imho, not just gingers! It is a very soft style and for some reason, I don’t think the textures are bad at all. I am very glad I checked out their booth! πŸ™‚

Well, I suppose I do not need to say much about Exile. Their hair, in this case, fits my head perfectly fine, their textures are awesome and I LOVE this style. It is exactly the kind of length I want for my elf, and it falls in soft, natural seemign waves. I liiiike it! πŸ™‚ I also like the reds they offer.

Then there is Iren. I always had the problem that their hair looked like actual wigs on MY head, but good on others. Grumble. So I was reluctant to try first because I thought I might just get frustrated again. But noooo, I did it and I am happy. I only wish it was modifyable because their red tones are not exactly what I like. but oh well, this one is close enough and I LOVE the soft waves combines with the brad. Iren often loks way too big on my head, but this one is really nice. πŸ™‚

Hairfair 2013 2

Ever since I found Mina Hair again and saw that she makes mesh hairs now and has improved GREATLY on her textures, I am a fan. Her textures are very soft and silky. In this case, I am showing both a tinted (Mina her is modifyable!! :D) version and the original colour I used. I like both, but for my particular character, the non-tinted is a bit too bright. There are four styles to be had, I am showing my two favourite ones. Ido think some of Mina’s hairs are a little big for the average head (mine is sized 52) at times, but in this case, I was lucky. I really like them both.

Redmint is a brand I never especially liked, their hair always seemed chunkly and oddly shaped. Buuuuuut, a friend of mine basically shoved it right in my face and I am glad she did, otherwise I might have not noticed these two styles. While the texture is a TAD glossy for my taste, I really like the red shades they offer and the look of these two styles. The braids really are soft and seem to fall naturally on the back/over the shoulder (see pics below). I am truly impressed with these and like them a lot. πŸ™‚ Great improvement there, I hope they keep up with this good work.

Here the view of the braids from behind:

Hairfair 2013 3

So, I daresay the Hair Fair reached its goal with me and sucked a LOT of Lindens outta my pocket. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Thanks for establishing this event every year.

BUT! Someone was missing. And damn, Truth made his own little hair fair. Ever since Truth released his new textures alongside with a new storebuilding I drool over his hairs. His new releases caused me to run by after looking for him at the Hair Fair for an hour or so. Thanks, Gogo for letting me know he does not participate, LOL! I might have looked for another hour.

So here we go, needless to say I love these. I love the textures, the softness of the styles, the natural fall of strands as well as the shades! These reds are still my fav reds. πŸ™‚ I am so happy that Truth’s hair always fits me so well. Lately, too, his creativity has picked up again and the more recent styles have been really pretty and unique once more. The new textures are just yummy.

That reminds me:

Dear Truth Hawks, please, please, please make more of soft wavy styles like Candy? Please? Please? πŸ™‚

    1. You have to apply to get into events such as this earlier than the crowd as a blogger, somtimes they do contests for it, too. I forgot to apply but got lucky because Voshie reminded me that I was in a certain group of Bloggers that got preaccess. πŸ™‚

  1. I was anticipating a lot of lag but surprisingly? I hardly lagged at all and everything (including) the demos rezzed really quickly. I was a little disappointed with some of the vendors I was really looking forward to. It looked like they just threw out some random mess of a hair just to be in the event without giving any thought to it or recycled an old hair style with slight differences. Luckily, Truth released these new hair styles and perked my mood up because I thought I was going to end up empty handed.
