Love Donna Flora, a Kickstarter for SL Clothes and an Outfit. :)

Hello peeps!

First of all, I want to advertise an event that will soon be starting, to be exact, on July 25th: Love Donna Flora. Love Donna Flora is a fundraising event to help Squinternet Larnia, owner of Donna Flora, who has been delivering some of the finest jewelry on the entire grit since several years.

What is going on?

Last year, Squinternet Larnia was told that she had breastcancer and that she had only a few months left to live. With the aid of several therapies, she in fact lived through another hopeful year, but the cancer has come back with force. In Italy, where Squinternet lives, the therapy she needs is, despite national health insurances, costly and she has to finance parts of them herself. Anyone who ever had a case of cancer in their family or among their friends knows just how much money the treatment of cancer costs. Add to that, that due to her condition Squinternet lacked the strength and time for new releases, the income from her inworld store only barely covers the tier for her sim anymore. In order to support her, Cajsa Lilliehook and her team have started a fundraiser.

A fundraiser. Again?!

Yes, I know. We are all wary of fundraisers and technically, everyone could just fake whatever and try to appeal to peoples’ empathy to gain their trust and get money. I think the keyword really is trust. The team organizing this even is a team of several relatively wellknown people such as Gidge Uriza, Cajsa Lilliehook, Felicty Bluementhal, Gorgeous Yongho and several others. They put heavy emphasis on transparency and never struck me as the kind of people naively believing things. On the Love Donna Flora Blog you will find explanations on Squinternet’s condition as well as a section called “Transparency” where you’ll even find scans of the documents that verify her illness. The team really goes out of its way to make sure people can trust them, and frankly, I do.

Surely there are enough dubious fundraisers out there and surely I can udnerstand people who still don’t think fundraisers are a good idea ever, but I have a habit of listening to my gutfeeling, and in this case, it tells me it is a good and the right thing to do. Also, I cannot see why people complain about fundraisers in general: No one forces anyone to donate without getting anything back in return. You pay, and you GET an item in return.

So, have a look at the event once it starts (the LM will be featured here) and spread the word if you will. Or go directly to her store and have a look at her amazing jewelry (and clothes).

A kickstarter for Sl clothes?

I think the basic concept of kickstarter is known by now: Someone wants to pull off an idea they have but lacks the funds, so they join kickstarter and explain the concept there and hope for others to share the idea or like it, thus giving them money until they reach a certain goal. In return, you often get gifts, a pricereduction on the endproduct etc.

Juno Mantel of Junbug showed me the followering websites on Indiegogo: Gown 1, Gown 2 .

Basically, Juno offers certain examples of dresses/whatever else she would be willing to build IF enough people are willing to invest money into an idea they wish to support to reach a certain amount of money. I think the concept is a brave, innovative and creative idea for Secondlife, at least I have never heard of it before. The idea of supporting something that I personally would like to see done seems very cool to me and would give me the feeling of being able to be heard by creators. At the same time, creators would actually get a real sort of feedback by the public of what is wanted. So far, it is only really an idea to test it out.

What do YOU THINK about this idea? Post your comment below. 🙂

And here is my current outfit. Poor Deccan had to watch me getting into it, which took forever.

  1. I love the idea of crowdfunding for niche SL clothing like period dresses. Let’s face it, nearly none of this stuff is being made yet because people don’t want to make the risk of building it for little to no return.

However, I’m wary of this statement: “If the target funding of $500 is not reached by the 17th of August any pledges given will be refunded. There is no risk to you and your support will be greatly appreciated!”

Then why does she use Indiegogo which takes your money as soon as you pledge? If she used Kickstarter, it automatically wouldn’t take the money unless it was successful.

    1. I am not entirely sure, but I believe (that’s some info I have at the back of my mind) that Kickstarter doesn’t accept everything and you need to ‘apply’?
